$3500 obo

Approx. 140,000 miles. Manual transmission. Running great. Looking great.

Pictures galore at http://www.1987bmw535is.shutterfly.com/action/

I purchased this beauty in May 2002 from an indepedent broker here in Nashville who found the car in Memphis from who he believed was the first owner. The car had about 105,000 miles. Odometer stopped flipping about a year ago at approx. 130,000. Since then I have made 2 road trips to Northern Indiana and 1 road trip to Southern Florida. This is approx. 5000 miles. I’m conservatively adding another 5000 miles for around town use over the last year, but that’s pretty conservative, because I bike to and from work and my wife has a car with bike racks that we use most of the time. Well, we used to. Now that we’ve got a child, we bought a Subaru station wagon and use that most of the time. Hence (and sadly), no need for the BMW.

Speedometer (and all other dashboard gauges and electrical stuff [like time/date/mpg/est. miles until out of gas/outside temp]) works fine. No leaks that I'm aware of.

As to be expected, this car has a few quirks and currently needs 2 new tires on the front (I have the spare on the front passenger side at the moment), but this car is running really good, shifts smoothly, and it's a blast to drive. It also looks totally classy.

Quirks:

1. Turn signal/Blinker is only working intermittently.

2. On very cold days at speeds above 40 mph, the heater stops blowing hot air.

3. Dome light – when set to “turn-on with doors open” – occasionally flickers on. Thus, I leave it set to “off.” This may be a result of the rear driver side door needing a slight adjustment.

4. The driver side head rest is off-track (I think), because when you push the up/down electrical adjustment, you can hear the motor trying, but it doesn’t move. All other electrical seat adjustments work. In fact, as far as I know, everything else electrical is working great.

For someone who knows these cars and does their own work, $500 - $750 in parts should take care of every little thing.

I would guess this car could use an alignment job, because it’s been a while since I’ve had one. This may be causing some minor front end vibration at high speeds on the interstate, but this may also be a result of the two front tires needing replacement (steel belt is showing through on the front driver side).

The AC works, but last summer I had my mechanic put a few cans of Freon into the cooling system. This kept the air blowing cold from May through September, the only time I use AC in Nashville.

BONUS: the radio I had installed has an amber glow read-out, to match the amber glow from the dashboard. The effect is very nice. It has CD and an auxiliary input for iPod or an XM receiver. The XM receiver docking station is mounted by the radio and it’s hardwired with XM satellite antenna (on back of trunk). I am not including an XM receiver in this deal, but if you decided to purchase a receiver and this configuration, it too has an amber glow, so the effect at night is super classy.

If you can think of any questions, please ask. If you want pictures of any other parts of the car, just ask. I don’t want my buyer to have any surprises, and I want you to be pleased if you decide to purchase. This car has a lot of sentimental value for me, and I want a happy buyer.

If you want to run the CarFax, the VIN # WBADC7406H0964672 and records for work done in the past can be confirmed by “Rich” at Auto Fitness (615-255-5983). Rich is the most honest mechanic in Nashville and an owner of a late ‘80s BMW, so he’s the guy to talk to if you want to know anything else about this car.

I look forward to hearing from you-
