How much do you pay per year?

In Michigan I am thoroughly screwed over, registration rates are determined by the cars original MSRP. I pay $110 a year, for a 15 year old car![?|] I bet an M5 will be at least $200[xx(]

[ohcrap] Okay then, I guess Michigan isn't so bad afterall.

I was just thinking it was bad because my mom only pays 60 bucks a year for both her cars
, and I pay almost double for one.

But then again I hear owning a car in California is a joke, don't you have to meet emmisions and crap like that, plus you can't do any modifacations to your car.

I was trying to find the CA VLF schedule, but couldn't. I was thinking a new M5 would be about $1200, so MI is still a bargain.

CA has some pretty strict rules on mods, but it's not hard to find a place to smog (smog certificate is required for registarion, add another 40 bones to that VLF) your car, as long as the emmisions are clean.

Obviously haven't been reading many posts on all the mods people do...Cali included.

As Californians, we pay a premium to live, eat, breathe, and drive (among others), but we pay for it because it is worth it. California isn't the world's 7th largest economy for no reason!!

In Michigan...you're in a "dying" state...ever since 1776, the migration has been a strong westerly trend. Go figure.
[poke] [driving2] [thumb]

'87 325 = $58.00/year + smog check every other year.

'88 528 = $62.oo/year + smog...

'97 740 = $313.00/year (and dropping) + smog...

Not too bad, eh?

CA's registration (as of October 2003) is 3% of your car's value I believe. That means new cars pay 3% of the sale price. The state treats your car as having 10% depreciation every year I think when calculating the "value" to use for your registration. Hopefully, the Governator will live up to campaign promises and repeal the car tax.

"governator" lol, he gets sworn in today.

Registration goes down the older the car, expect around 1200 for a new car in california and in 5 years it will be down to a cuple of hundred. In CA everything was trippled, hopefuly it will be put back once the "governator" gets to work.

Certain cars are lower costs also, my sis's 98 Taurus SHO is only $90 a month, before it was trippled it was only $30.

Geez, you guys get raped! Pennsylvania is $36 a year for vehicle registration, whether it is a 1972 Pacer X or a 2004 Ferrarri. Vehicle value is not at all factored in the cost.

As of today California people are getting a break. So what were you in CA paying? I found the break down on mine for Nevada and it was more than I remembered:

Total first year I paid $740.50

First time fees, title plates etc. $46.00

TAX $694.50 !!!!!!!!!

This is directly off my receipt. [scream] The reson I thought it was less is that I had a credit from my old plates that dropped the amount I paid.

This is based on the base price for the 330i and shows $34,800.00 for tax base, everyone pays only the base vehicle rate but that is bad enough.

And they say how good we have it for taxes [?|]

How does this compare to what you in CA pay, or will pay?
