hi all [???1]
i just bought a 87 735i ,now every thing seems to be running top notch the only problem im having is when im sitting idle it tends to shimmy (shakes alittle, well pretty good)
I have all maintinace records and the thing is mint inside, out, under and very clean in the enigine (little dirty so i know it was not just washed), so I was just wondering if this was normal bmw thing or if i have major problems. Plz let me know, also it has a rusty cat (cat-convt) the only rusty thing on this but i think i will just chop it out

Also i was wondering if i could get some opinions and feed back on the price i paid.

- 87 735i
- fully loaded (FULLY)
- 95% left on HAKKAPELIIT TA-1 205/70 R14 95T M+S ( winters )
which i was told were special order from swedan and are worth $1000/pc
- 5 other factory rims and tires
- 150,000 miles
- 10 disc cd
- it runs great and produces awsome bhp with plenty of torque and top end it just doesnt stop
- the kicker is I got this for $3000 canadian (roughly $1800 us)

Let me know ur opinion i really want to hear it and if u can tell me if the shimmy is a normal thing i will LOVE u for a long time

Thanks again, Kenny (newbie bimmer boy)

i wanna say the choke. my car does that only during certain tempatures in the morning. usually after warm nights, very cold nights, or parked in the garage. i think its sticking but not sure.

fyi, next time.....post your questions for cars in their section on the forum.

Choke?!?

You realize the "I" in 735i means that it has fuel injection. BMW got rid of carburetors a while ago... There is no choke! No fuel injected engine NEEDS a choke, as the ECU can create the rich running condition usually needed in the morning.

There are a few things that plague the older bmw's with idle problems. Could be dirty/bad sensors (air flow sensor, o2 sensor, etc.), a very likely candidate is a bad idle control valve

Part #17. They cost over $100 most places... just try taking yours out and cleaning it with carb cleaner. Other than that? Check and replace the distributor cap and rotor (most likely they are bad), check the spark plugs (and clean or replace), and make sure all the plug wires are in good condition and not cracked.
