DLP projection is actually your best option IMO for price vs quality. Plasma would be next, but is pricey for the higher quality ones. You can get a plasma that does not handle HDTV for about the same price as LCD. Plasma is also rumored to have burn-in though I have never seen this happen before.

LCDs are not supposed to have their image deterioate nearly as fast as plasma TVs. That's according to everything I've read. Personally I have not purchased either yet, but when I do, I'll be looking for a LCD.

lcd is actually not very good for any fast moving shows/sports (football game for example). plasma/lcd is only good if "space" is your concern. as far as quality of the pictures, dlp , lcd projection, and lcos are just as good for a lot less $$. i have the samsung 50" dlp and i love it.

This is slightly [offtopic], but eh...

...I went to an Indian restaurant the other night and they had LCD screens on the walls there showing videos. Anyway, to me LCD v. Plasma is more on personal preference. I like both, I haven't don't much research on it, but if LCDs are cheaper than I'd go with that. But eh... what do I know. [thumb]

I think you'll be very happy with either choice. I've found LCD's to have a sharper overall picture because they are pixel based (each pixel supports 16.4 million colors or whatever). Plasma displays are like a CRT display - Each "pixel" has 3 parts, red, green, and blue. So overall the LCD would have a better picture.

Plasma TV's have a burn in time of like 20,000 hours now.

took the words right out of my mouth. lcd has a higher definition because of the individual pixels....

i was just walking through sears yesterday buying tools and stoped to check out the flat panels. im thinking of replacing my 5 year old 17" with a 26" Sharp LCD which has max resolution of 13x7 and all the monitor hook ups i would need. id use it as my studies computer monitor/tv for movies and such, so $2000 hurts... but it might be do'able

anyone have other ideas on reasonable options for (primarily) a huge computer monitor?

LCDs will be the future flat panel of choice, once they could solve the size and cost issue. which is supposed to happen by 2006 or so. until then, plasma v LCD is up for debate. LCD is suppose to outlast plasma. (but i've never really looked into it, just casual readings, so i'm not sure) but for now, go w/ what you like, and what you can spend. usually LCDs for smaller (upto 40 inches or so) and plasmas for 40+ inches. LCDs are suppose to be smaller and thinner than the plasma counterpart, and once the price comes down, i can't see how plasma tech could compete.

unless you have a dark room, lcd projection, or any projection tv for that matter isn't the most ideal.. for the best picture, even now, direct tube is the best way to go. if you could get over the weight factor..
