What the hell is there to talk about? They need to fire his racist a$$ now! [mad]

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1662212

Here's the convo:
Singer: "What are you doing here?"

Ng: "I'm working."

Singer: "What are you doing here?"

Ng: "I'm working. I'm the Dodger assistant general manager."

Singer: "Where are you from?"

Ng: "I was born in Indiana and grew up in New York."

Singer: "Where are you from?"

Ng: "My family's from China."

Singer: Nonsensically mock Chinese, then "What country in China?"

If this had happened to someone of African descent, he'd be blacklisted from baseball.

Baseball is more of a business than a sport. Why do people still watch it? The only baseball thats kind of fun to watch is the minor league. 4 bucks to get in, good food (thats not 8 bucks for a hotdog) and the game is usually pretty good. Plus they give away a lot of free tshirts and prizes.

I see nothing wrong with that remark.

Segregation is not wrong.

Segregating the poor and lower class lowers crime rate for the rest of the population and decreases the financial burden for most of us.

Thats the way it has always been and until white is not longer the dominant hand this will remain the case. No one just has the ballz to outright say it.

The only baseball I like is the kind that you actually participate in for "fun". Wow, baseball and fun co-existing, weird.[:p]

What's making an offensive comment have to do with segregation? So what if the Mets exec is white. If he were purple or any other color, I'd still be pissed and offended.

I don't know how you people can get so ****ing bent out of shape about this. I really wonder if everyone has gone completely insane. There is nothing wrong with that statement! Is it insensitive, yeah a little, but WHO CARES? The fact that this is a big story really makes me sick. First off what he said wasn't even really bad and second there is a HUGE double standard about "racism". You can't even call a black person black but sure you can joke about Irish people's drinking problem or the anything about the British and any other European country. The same thing goes for in school when all the black kids can go around calling the kids of European descent "cracker" or something of that nature and if you ever even thought about calling them anything other than African American you'd be expelled!!! And believe me, I am in highschool, and this happens all the time.

I really can't understand why right now every other race and ethnicity get's protected except the people of European descent. You can make fun of white people all the time on TV and in any social situation and it is perfectly acceptable but everything else is off-limits.

Let me say that I don't care if someone says something about my Irish, British or German heritage, but at the same time people of other ethnic backrounds need to stop freaking out every time someone makes an off-colour remark.

... and thats my rant for today. :)

I agree he should have been fired, there is no need to that kind of people in the work place. I'm glad Mrs. NG was professional about the situation.

That is a pretty bad statement, here in the US there shouldn't be a you or I people. This country is made up of immigrants and we are all Americans. Little things like this, if its not made public, people would not be aware that there are still plenty of racism in this country.

Pavel, your comment makes no sense as usual so I won't bother replying.

Growing up just 30 miles from the birth place of the KKK, I've known too much hate. One of my main things in life that I like to spread is Unity, but at the same time I recognize that people will always senselessly hate others because of the color of thier skin. You just have to come to an understanding that people will always hate and that there is nothing you can do about it. I know it's sad, but it's true. All I can do is just try and touch one person. When people cry out about things like this it just creates more hate. The way to help phase out hate is by passive actions. People should not get mad, but instead lead by example. Just my 2 cents. If I had more time I'd write a whole paper on it. Sorry if that's confusing. I'm in class trying to do some work and type this.

Thank you for not banning me Tom [:I] .

About the original thread... the comments are not racist at all and no one should be fired. Sh what if he asked the question twice? So what if he is dumb to not know China is a country in itself. This is the free country and we have the right to be the way we are. [thumb]

*Cough*http://www.naawp.com/crime_stats.htm*Cough*

"In the last 50 years, the white part of the American population has declined from 90% to 72%. The U.S. now has about 33 million blacks and 25 million Hispanics (legal and illegal). By the year 2050, American whites will be a minority, just 49%. By 2100, whites will be 25% of the population. What will life for whites be like in the future?" [paranoid]

[screwy] Good thing I won't live to see what happens to whites in that future

You can't just pick out individual statements and hold them up and go, "oh, that phrase isn't racist" "neither is this one", etc. Using your logic, Hitler never committed genocide. He just ordered a person killed. Then just another one. He never intended to wipe out a race.

If you read the whole convo, he was just starting something. She tried to give him multiple openings for him to just say what he literally said. But was he really just asking where she was from or lost or something? No, he was wondering what the hell an Asian woman, of all things, was doing in (in his mind) a white boy's sport. And it wasn't just him not knowing that China is a country, it was him making those sing song noises mocking the Chinese language that shows he wasn't simply geographically inept.

Tom, you make it sound like (to me atleast) that by me saying, "you", I was refering to a seperate ethnic group. I would like to clear up that I was refering to people who hold the double standard for racism, no matter what their descent is.

Also, please don't try and tell me that if it wasn't for stories like this that people wouldn't be aware of the racism in this country. I am a junior in high school and I get to witness the racism against whites every day, the racism that everyone is afraid to talk about. I know that there is a lot of hatred in this country and I experience it in school all the time. In school there is racism both ways coming from and directed towards each and every ethnic group. The thing that really bothers me is that each case is not handled equaly, which I not only find ironic but also disturbing. But I have already stated how I feel about this, I really just wanted to clear up my previous statement because from your reply I feel that you may have taken it the wrong way.

I'm pretty sure that this entire story and entire thread is based on one conversation. Just look at your title and it is clear that you are only talking about that one remark, which is completely the opposite of what you are saying now...

Also, I do not know how Hitler came into this and I do not understand what you could possibly have meant by your statement so I am not even going to go into that.

Ok, so if the guy is mocking Chinese, again, who cares? The fact that he would do that only makes him look like an idiot. Again, I am of Irish, British and German descent. Why is me being Irish and different that her being Chinese. I really do not understand why certain ethnicities are protected against ANY kind of insensitive remark or even a joke while others have no immunity to the same kind of slander.

My apologize then Jeff if I interpret your comments incorrectly. Additionally, I wasn't directing my awareness comment at yourself. I was stating in terms of the mass public.

Any rate, let's try to keep this debate clean and civilize. I don't want this thread to get out of hand and end up being locked. So please word your comments carefully.

Thanks,
Tom
