The idiocy isn't limited to California - the exact same thing has been charged here in Pennsylvania by a Penn State professor immigration law professor. An article was in today's paper about it.

What part of "Illegal" as in Illegal Alien don't they understand???

If I have illegal window tint, I get stopped and fined. If I have illegal drugs, I go to jail.

They are driving illegally and get stopped. They are also illegal aliens, send them home.

If I murder someone and they find the weapon, can I claim a profiling defense - because most murderers use a weapon and therefore I was profiled? How assinine can this possibly get????

That article tries to make it sound like the cops are just pulling over people because they are Mexican. I guess they just don't get it. The cops ARE pulling them over for traffic violations. If they are speeding, they are breaking a law that can get them pulled over. If there is visibly too many people in the van, they are breaking the law (at least in most states I think). If it's a DUI check point, well, they have always asked for my drivers license and asked what I was out doing. I will admit that DUI check points are annoying, but it does get a lot of dangerous people out from behind the wheel.
