From my experience police do not show up without a call or some reason to believe an illegal action is taking place. Usually negative stories about the police are blown out of porportion and distorted as emotion gets inthe way. The law works (most of the time) and if the police were or are wrong the best advice is to follow their orders and settle it later with a suit. When a person refuses to follow directions he/she lessens their potential position as the "victim" and suffers some of the liability.

The forum you referenced is obviously one-sided, there's no way to tell what "the other side" of the story is. It came across to me that maybe there is a history of confrontation, like the police might have shown up with an attitude. It does seem a bit excessive, hopefully the reporter that was there wrote a factual unbiased report that really tells the story.

Punk rock is OK by me (what's wrong with hardcore girls [hihi]). I was about, eh, 25 or so when it started. I remember stuff like this happening back then, too, hehehe.

the news paper article that was written today in the paper was more-or-less the same story. it still sickens me to think about it

ouch, that almost hurt. [rolleyes]
Ouch, that was almost a good comeback.

I have to agree with Big D and Kirby, cops never show up out of nowhere and become hostile for no reason. Based on history of events like these, I'm sure it was some kind of inappropriate behavior that brought the police there. And I bet the people who were intoxicated didn't give the cops a warm welcome.

"It was a safe, family event -- not unlike a church carnivals that have shared the same grounds with live music, alcohol, and other festivities."

Yeah, give me a break...church carnivals only have cops showing up for some free food. In one of the posts of that link, a guy stated he was listening in on the police scanner and the cops were saying how there were numerous complaints.

I really would like to know the other side to the story, though. Too many times I've seen or heard about these gatherings just getting WAY out of hand. Is the newspaper article available online?

People who are into punk rock enough to go do that stuff, are usually stupid to begin with, then when you give them booze and drugs....well, yea.

Woah man I think you're taking it a little too personal....it's true about most punk rock type of guys though. Exactly like emo except without the fake depressed people.

Easy dude! I think my post (below) was neutral and also questioned the police response...

So you thought we were just gonna agree and be like "Yeah cops suck, they broke their own laws, blah blah blah" without any kind of factual basis of what happened? This is why punk rock people are so dumb.

LOL, I know. I have some friends that go to an art school in NYC, or basically any time I'm in the village or that area I see so many weirdos like that. They all got that "If you're not wearing clothes that make you as ugly as possible, you just don't understand."

Nice thread, thanks for the laughs...[hihi]

But in all seriousness the pictures that reporter took tell me a few things...

1) There was something about that gathering that upset the local law enforcement to merit such a response. (Unless the chief is biased to them. and runs that small town like a dictatorship which is highly unlikely)

2) They being typical crazy "rebellious" kids didn't follow orders and that always creates a bad situation when it involves police. These were police officers not their parents.

3) In one of those pictures one of the attendees looks like hes trying to get into a confrontation with the officer.

I do sympathize with those who had to learn a hard lesson, but sometimes if you're on "the other side" it's hard to see the whole event objectively. I mean you don't expect the police to softly ask them to be quiet and leave now do you?
