Real ID has been passed by the house requiring states to provide ID's such as drivers licenses with certain features. Without these features, you will not be able to board any plains, trains, and automobiles - aka busses (wait, wasn't that a movie?).

Mmmmm.... I really never thought this would pass do to states right issues, but it did. Unfortunatly, I think that to much faith will be put into the ID's, so once they are counterfited (which will happen eventually), nobody will question the ID of a person more (at least until they catch on that the ID's are being counterfitted).

Oh well... my little rant for the day. Theirs good things about it - I guess I just don't have as much faith in it as many of our elected officials do.

I’m not sure how well it will work. I hear stories on the news here about busts that result in equipment that can print, magnetic stripe, encode, and activate hundreds and thousands of credit card from a hotel room. Our new driver’s license is already being effectively forged within months of introduction.

Another problem is forged documents being used to get the license.

It would be nice if it works but I’m not sold yet.

Not that I'm for it or anything, but it doesn't sound much worse than a passport. All they have to do now is scan the passport. I do agree that they probably won't do much more to curb the spread of terrorism.

I wonder if they are going to mark the cards with 666? JK

I think it's funny they are making such a big deal about biometrics, like finger print identification and etc. With normal passwords, badges, etc. it's one thing to copy a card, but there will be a point when biometrics can be bypassed (like picking up someones fingerprint on a car handle or etc.). When biometrics is finally bypassed, then it renders it totally useless. It's obviously not the solution.
