I am somewhat of a fitness guru, I lift 5 days a week and do cardio 6 days a week. I am looking to put on some size ( I am now 190lbs and trying to get 210-215lbs by June) but I HATE Protein drinks, bars what have have you thus I tend not waste my money on them but.......I cannot consume 250 grams of protein a day just eating normal tuna, chicken breasts, red meat....whatever. Can anyone point me to a decent tasting protein bar with 200 or less calories, 1.5 grams of fat or less, 15 grams of carbs or less and at least 32 grams of protein? I found one called Detour but as the PX usually does, they bring a product out for a month and then never stock it again. I know this is an oddball request for our forum but the fitness forums SUCK and everyone is a health professional trying to give out advice. I just want to know if anyone has had a pleasant experience with any protein supplement or am I trying to find gold at the end of a rainbow?
Thanx
Mike

Although it does not quite meet your requirements, the PowerBar Protein Plus and Protein Plus Carb Select taste pretty good. They have more carbs and fat than you desire, but they might be worth looking at, since PowerBar products are found fairly easily. When I use to work out, I found that drinking the protein shakes with milk made them taste just like chocolate milk - GNC's chocolate whey protein was a staple of my diet back then. Those shakes, along with a high fat-high protein diet that was more radical than anything Dr. Atkin's ever prescribed let me go from 150 to 185 in two years, at 10% bodyfat. Good luck with the weight gain.

I use MESOTECH shake mix, which has already 350 cal, mixing it with milk brings that to over 420 cal (skim milk) so I stick with water. Your are right the carb bars from Powerbar have 22 grams of protein (good) but 270 cal (bad) but they do taste good. It isn't just weight gain I want, hell I could eat twinkies all day to gain weight. Muscle weight is so freaking hard to put on. I have been doing this for years. When I deployed to Bosnia in 96-97 I weighed in at 135 lbs, 9 month later when I returned I was at 197. I have been at that weight for 7 years now (185-195). Thanks for the input.

You can always just go ghetto style and chug peanut butter and egg whites.
Egg whites yes, awsome 8-12 grams of protein per egg....but..... eggs get old real quick and they make for some stinky flatulance!![80?] codex, please don't go on a peanut butter diet. Peanuts have one of the highest contents of saturated fat of all foods. Most peanut butters have between 110-190 cals per serving (1 Tblspn) and 90-110 of those cals comes from fat. The fat for protein tradeoff in peanut butter in not worth it. Good Idea though.

If you want to try the diet that I was on, the book that I used to help me out was titled "The Anabolic Diet" by Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale. Like I said, it is a version of the Atkins diet, but limits your carbs more during the week, with carb loading during the weekend. I was in a similar situation as your, where I gained some good weight, but could not break past the 150 mark with lean muscle mass - it seemed that when I increased calories, I just got fatter, not stronger. Switching to the anabolic diet gave me unbelievable results, so much so that many people thought I was on steroids, which I was not. I was able to get up to 185 at 10% body fat in 2 years while on this diet, and experienced no fatigue or high cholesterol or anything. I know you said that you did not want to eat protein all day, but this diet may be something for you to look into. Good luck.

That's why I said ghetto. [:p] Knew some kid from high school who went on an egg white and peanut butter diet. Got chunky (put on weight) real fast, but then started eating healthy w/ lotsa protein (chicken, tuna, egg whites, etc.) and went from a flabby body to a pretty cut one. Prolly not the healthiest way to go cuz of the fat like you said, but he did it pretty quick.

The rest of us were eating MetRx bars and crap and it took us forever to gain mass while that kid did it in like 3 months. I still never got all that big. Then went to college, was a couch potato and lost all my mass cuz I didn't eat enough.

Sometimes I use the Power Mass 1000 vanilla protien shake mix when I need to gain weight. It actually tastes really good. I got it at GNC.

Or you could just buy a bunch of ice cream. That's more fun [rofl]
