Yeah, that is a weird article, but he brings up the right point. You can buy the cheapest BMW or the cheapest Mercedes, and you will still look rich.

Perception versus Reality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in Texas and guys purchase maxed out SUV's and big trucks that cost more than my BMW........that's reality...........but perception by the public is that my car cost more......[?|]

What gets me is the idea that because you buy a 3 Series, you can’t afford a "real BMW." And thus indicates that you are fake. The 3 series runs 30-40k and is a good choice within that range. He makes it sound like someone that may have purchased an Accord for $24 scrapes a little more together and struggles to buy the BMW 3 for status and pretending to be rich. No consideration even given to the fact that the car is a good choice for the price range.

I laugh at the idea that I drive a fake BMW 3 Series at $48,686.00 list price.........I should get a refund of $8000.00........or at least we could be called "The Pretenders"......not fake.....[hihi] [hihi]

According to him, you should get a refund of $21,386.00. [fake] And I should get one for $15,395.00. Damn overpriced "fake" BMW's. And just think, you could have purchased a "real" BMW 528i and possibly had some money left over. [?|]

If that's the case, I'm smarter than the guy who bought that $45,000 Ford pickup truck b/c I look rich and paid over $10K less and he doesn't. I really don't see the problem there.

"But what club precisely are people who buy the new $27,800 BMW 3-Series joining? The club of people who can afford to pay $27,800 for a cheap BMW but can’t afford a “real” one?"

Umm last time I checked rich people dont drive BMW's anyway

Bently, Ferrari and Lamborgini caters to the rich

BMW is just another car company...rich is relative....rich is defined as 1million+gross income per year.....anybody make that here?

You can be rich in your soul and broke in your pocket. The best thing you can do is make your job exciting, fun and integrate it in your life so that it leaves room for you to create your own schedule and enjoy everything that you do... thats the best life and it makes you feel rich all around...

Wow Push, a pearl of philosophy!!

I think this guy is de-emphasizing one of the major reasons that people are buying "elite" brands - BMW, Panera, Victoria's Secret,etc.. People are getting tired of the same old boring mundane crap, which he talks about, but that doesn't mean they are trying to fake wealth. Perhaps it is just a basic change in consumer interest - God forbid that consumers actually think before they buy!!

Isn't everyone just tired of boring McDonalds, Burger King, Chi Chi's Fake Mexican Food (now in chapter 11), Playtex 24 Hour Cross Your Heart Bras, Chevy Geo, Pontiac Grand Am, etc, etc, etc?

I think it would be utterly stupid to consider the 3-series not a real BMW. The 3-series is "cream of the crop" or the "bread and butter" of BMW's lineup. 3-series accounts for most of BMW's sales by far, and the 3-series has the most character (reflects BMW's sport and luxury goal the best).
