Umm last time I checked rich people dont drive BMW's anyway

Bently, Ferrari and Lamborgini caters to the rich

BMW is just another car company...rich is relative....rich is defined as 1million+gross income per year.....anybody make that here?

Yes, I think there are a few that may meet the criteria for the classification of “rich” according to most peoples standard. Where did you get that number from? What about someone with an income of only 250-750k year with several million in assets? Many would consider them as this definition that someone has constructed of "rich". Bently, Ferrari, Lamorgini? Not a 7, M5, Alpina Roadster, MB? Interesting perspectives people have about this topic.

There is a point the author is missing..........quality in products and certain name brands whether in cars, clothes, jewelry, etc. have a far greater quality and will last longer than their counterparts. I prefer top notch clothing as well, an expensive dress can last for years while a cheap dress may only make it through one season. Victoria Secret is not any more expensive than Playtex, but the name perpetuates expensive, therefore people consider it top of the line, same as cars. One of the reasons I purchased a BMW is because I have spent so much money changing cars every two years for various reasons and decided to purchase one expensive one (In my opinion it was expensive) that should last a lot longer than my other cars. Again, perception versus reality.

One company that never has had a sale in the history of its operation.........nothing says love like Tiffany's.......[thumb]

Thats the stupedest thing. First off, I didnt know that the 3 series was so cheap. I way over paid for mine then. About 10k over. Secondly I agree, rich is relative. To the guy who only has a bus pass, a hyundai driver might be rich. I bought a quality car, that provides me with a level of prestige sure, but that prestige doesnt come from nowhere. People see BMW as a rich person's car because of the quality and reputation that came from that quality. I see a mercedes c coupe driver and I dont think...oooh rich, because its a mercedes. Heck, its like 20k's and isnt even german made. Just because it has a mercedes symbol doesnt mean im not gonna know that its a affordable car. Anyone who buys a car to look rich is a retard. Oh...and 3 series rules.

Whats wrong with the bare bones? people might just be looking for the quality, but not needing all the extra crap the company charges an arm and leg for.

I talked my mom into getting the 2004 c230 komp. damn nice car

It sure is a nice car. You don't have to have all the bells and whistles to make it a great car. And another thing, the Accord is not a POS.

My uncle makes over $1 million + gross. I think he's in the $5 million/yr gross if you include stock options. He doesn't have a Bentley, Ferrari, or Lambo. Never has. He just drives a S500 and his wife has a last gen E320 station wagon. He used to drive a 7 series until he fell off a mountain in it. Not every rich person knows how to have fun with their money.

Oh, I should note that the S500 is a company car so it's not like he paid for it. If you don't count the S500, the only car he really spent any of his own money on is his wife's station wagon. Ya know, I'm blood. He really oughta give me better b-day and x-mas presents now that I think about it. All I got was a weird looking Versace tie for my b-day.

I am sure there are a lot more people like your uncle that don't drive the Farrari......and so on. Fun is relative, to some it is a S500 and a nice club membership. Funny how people equate Ferrari and so on with wealth when there are so many nice options out there. And when you look at those with real cash, how many don't fit the image so many think is reality. I think this is too funny how people are.

Yup, his idea of fun is seeing which exclusive club or group he can get in and improve his prestige. That and decorating his house with really weird, expensive, and uncomfortable crap. He doesn't know squat about cars. His secretary ordered it for him. I think he only picked it b/c all the people he hangs out with drive S classes instead of BMWs. His wife has horrible taste. He needs to talk to me more instead of listening to her. [:D]

Assets bring in money and I would venture to say if you make 750K a year and have a few million in assets you would easily clear 1mil+ a year in income and could be defined as "rich" in the defined defention based on todays cost of living

200K a year is not rich, its well off maybe, comfortable but how much can you afford to do if you only make 200K a year?

No yachts? Private jet? Ferrari collection worth 2.2mil? Baseball team franchise?

Rich is rich.....and well off is well off

Buying a 30K BMW does not imply being rich to me in anyway shape or form....If you were rich you would have a watch that cost 30K and would probably drive something much much nicer than a 3 series.....[fake]

New Question? If you had a million handed to you today, what would you really buy???

1. Valentine Radar Detector
2. Weekly Maid
3. State of the Art Oven
4. Cartier Lighter
5. Harley

I dont really need a million, just some extra mad money........

I'd buy an old farm house, build a five or six car garage with workshop. Then I'd get that red E30 M3 I've been dreaming about, oh yea then I'd buy a black E34 M5.[fake]

This is an interesting thread... what classifies a person as rich?? In New Zealand, BMW is definitely seen as a rich person's car... and I'll tell you why.

To start with, lets consider the currency exchange rates. $1.00 NZ Dollar is generally worth between $0.50 and $0.60 US Dollars. Yet on average we earn in Kiwi$ what Americans earn in US$.

That makes a lot of our imports like electronics & cars roughly twice as expensive relative to income. When you start paying $70k+ for a new car, in NZ that puts you definitely to the top of the crust.

But definitely a stigma attached to most European cars in general. The majority of purchasers here buy Japanese cars... the Euros tend to be perceived as higher quality engineering & prestige cars. A 5-yr old BMW has twice as much prestige of a brand new Camry!
