Fianacial performances before and after Bangle Initiatives
Hello all,
Since I would like to find the objective information of BMWgroup performances
before and after Chris Bangle's design initiatives, I searched financial reports
at the BMWgroup. Indeed, some of you might want true information as much as I did.
Here they are:
1) BMWgroup's sales increase => 0% comparing (2002 and 2003 (1Q, 2Q, 1H))*
2) 5 series sales dropped -18% (2002 and 2003 / 1H)*
3) 7 series sales increased 7% (2002 and 2003 / 1H)*
4) Mini Rover sales increased dramatically 44% (2002 and 2003 / 1H)*
The company ascribed the "0%" sales increase to economic downturns.
However, since our purpose is to find the influece of Bangle Initiatives,
it is better to focus on the above item 2) and 3).
Actually, at 2), the new Bangle style BMW 5 series are not included. Thus,
we can't decide Bangle's influences. However, above number 3),
it included Bangle's new fat 7 series.
Given that the sales increase of old 7 series between 2001 and 2002 was 50.7%,
the 7% increase (including the new 7 series) is too low. The economic downturn
has been salient from year 2000. Thus, we can say that there has been a different
factor other than mere economic downturn regarding new 7 series' sales decrease .
Though, it is too early to set up a deterministic view of Bangle Initiatives,
I would say, there has been inappropriate influences of new BMW design to
markets. And this might be one of the reason that they got a face lift of the
new 7 series.
