Do you believe in "karma" or the idea that what goes around, comes around? Well, this is proactive karma.

We're planning a trip to a friends cabin in the mountians. There's about ten couples, and a few young children going. I love to cook, so naturally I'm in charge of planning food. Eggs are a big part of breakfast for me, so my buddy and I were trying to decide how many to bring. He told me can get a really good deal, but he has to buy 18 dozen, probably more than we need. We have a good laugh about what to do with the extra eggs (won't go into details here).

Last night, my car was hit by an egg in the church parking lot. I washed it off as quick as possible, but the paint is badly dammaged at the point of impact. The damage is small, about the size of, well, an egg, but quite severe. It will need to be repainted in that spot.

You decide, greater powers at work, or random act of violence?

I'm not real happy, but it's just a car. Don't ge me wrong, I take good care of my things, but I don't get to worked up when it's out of my control (door dings, rock chips, etc.).

The police caught one kid, who rolled over on the others. But they are all 12-14 years old and come from very poor families. I elected not to pursue criminal charges, but I'm going to ask their parents to let the kids work off about $300 for me. I just bought a house and have a lot of yard work for them to do.

I think that is a good idea. I can't say specifically for these kids, but it seems that many parents don't teach the "responsibility" factor. These kids should have to take responsibility for their actions.

Wow, I can not believe you aren't going to press charges. Maybe it is just because of my close age relation to those kids but I would have gotten everything I could out of them. Just because you have a poor family doesn't give you the right to damage other people's posessions. Also just because you're poor doesn't mean the parents don't have a responsibility to teach their kids not to do things like this.

Karma is the belief that your actions in one life determines the nature of your next existance. Anyway, I do not believe in the soul, and would have to say it was an act of violence.

It'd be a tough case to prosecute, relying on the testimony of minors (the only witnesses) and very little physical evidence. I agree they, should be held reponsible - excuse me while step onto my soap box - but by age 14 it's a little late to be teaching these sort of values. I'm not sure that having Mom pay two weeks salary to fix the paint on my luxury car (hard to consider a Z3 anything but a luxury, even the IRS won't let count it as "farm" vehicle) while the kids go hungry is the message I want to send. I suspect that it will only cement the belief that they are second class citizens and push them further into anti-social behvior. I have contacted Mom, and I will be paying the boy a visit to discuss his options. It is my intention to have him work four Saturday's for me to make ammends for his actions. During my time with him I hope present a positive image of a responsible man (I'm pretty sure his dad is not a part of his life, and I'll be on my best behavior [;)] ) as well has give him the opportunity to internalize the concept of accountability. Hopefully this will have a more positive impact on his life than a trip through our over burdend legal system. And I will make some serious progress in the weed patch that is now my yard.

Vlad - you think it can buffed out? I'll take to a body shop guy I trust and see what he says, but the cracks look prett deep.

Put the buffer in the hands of a GOOD detail artist and with a little finesse, I've seen several cases such as this, work out well. Please note the emphasis on the person's abilities.

Sure, and having the kid scrub the floors of your house and clean the break dusk off your BMW with a microfiber cloth and a bottle of specialty cleaning fluid that cost more than his mom's car will make him feel great. [:p]
