Congrats on the engagement. Marriage can be a wonderful thing.

I haven't tried Disney either, but I have heard that Carnival has great stuff for kids. I hope so because I taking my daughter on a cruise in February.

Princess is my favorite, reasonably-priced line. I do remember a number of kids the last time I went in 2002 but I don’t remember what the activities were like for kids, I guess because we didn’t have kids then.

The one thing I noticed is that the nail you for “incidentals.” Our checkout bill was about $1,700.00 for bar and not covered services. This was still a hell of a deal and put the total price well under 4,000.00 including a room on a top floor of the ship for the 7 day Western Caribbean.

I think I’m going to investigate kid activities on the various lines a bit more and see what’s out there.

Have fun Abdoman, I'm sure she will love it.

Bryan, that price was for two correct? If so, that was a good deal. How old are your kids if you don't mind me asking. I have a little girl that will be "6" in Feb. and a little boy that is "17" months. What a joy...

Very true unless you plan to drink. Most cruises make you pay for the "adult" beverages. I agree the cruise would be fun and can be the easiest idea for a honeymoon. Now, the tough part is deciding which cruise to go on....
Never been on a cruise, wasn't aware of that. My experience is with resorts, like Couples in Jamaica. All you can eat and drink including alcohol, which I have regretted the next morning on occasion!

[drinking] <-- That would be me on the floor

Kirby, what kind of prices are the resorts like the one you mentioned above compared to the cruise numbers posted above. Can you get pretty good prices for the package resorts? That sounds like a lot of fun. Except the morning after.. [:)]

The price was for 2 people and included everything. The 1700.00 was for all the luxury and drinking stuff and nothing was missing. We thought it was one of the best vacation deals around.

My kids are 2 ½ twins--boy and girl. They are really at the point where they like all the Disney stuff but are still too young to do a whole lot. They would definitely not do well on port tours or anything guided so we would probably be doing more of our own thing. But in another 3-4 months who knows where they will be; it seems like they grow and change so fast.

That's right, I remember now when you were looking into car seats and were wondering if two would fit in a 3 series. I know what you mean about liking Disney stuff. My little girl is Princess crazy. It's hard planning anything when they are that young. I have the same problem with my "17" month old...

Depending on time of year and room type, you can book an all inclusive for $400 to $700+ per nite for 2 people, plus airfare. For example, Couples Ocho Rios has rooms, suites and cabanas. Couples is nice because it is like it sounds, no singles, no kids.

A good friend of mine went to an all inclusive in Cancun for 7 days Thanksgiving week, with wife and 2 kids, and with airfare he spent about $4400.

I've been on the Disney Cruise. Both when it was associated with Carnival like 15 years back and when it was it's actual own cruise line. The Carnival one sucked. The Disney one was awesome (only time I found the Bahamas not so depressing). Is Disney Cruise that expensive? My parents took me with some other friends and their families. $6000 is NOT something either my parents nor their friends would pay. We did the cruise for like 4 days and another 3 days at the parks package.

I liked the Disney Cruise. But, you kinda have to be a fan of Disney stuff b/c EVERYTHING is in your face Disney. I happen to be a big Disney fan and a huge Mickey Mouse fan. So, for me, I loved it. During dinner one night, all the settings, napkins, wall decorations, etc were all black and white Mickey silhouettes. Then, during dinner, it gradually changed (like w/ each course) into a bright rainbow colored atmosphere. It was a great effect. Plus, there are cute touches everywhere like a giant Goofy statue thing that's hanging off the back of the boat near the anchor. Plus, they have their own island so the upkeep on it was incredible. For your sports junkies, at the top of the boat, there's an ESPN lounge. So, if you're not so into Disney, just hang out there and watch sports or do other activities on the ship.

Before and after the cruise, they had the best greeter service. The cruise greeter went deep inside teh airport to help collect and organize us. Then they showed us teh way to baggage claim and once we all collected our baggage from that turning thing, we placed it all in one section. We got led onto these new and pretty plush tour buses and someone else from Disney took our luggage and placed it in the bus. When we arrived at the port, we just walked through the Disneyfied terminal, took pics at the loading plank thing and went to our rooms. Our luggage was miraculously already at our cabins and all we had to do was unpack.

Departure was similar. We just stuck our packed luggage out the night before or so and it disappeared. The next we saw it, it was at our hotel rooms at the Disney resort.

I've been on Carnival (the Disneyish one to Bahamas), the Disney Cruise Line (to Bahamas), Princess to Mexico and Alaska. While I do like Princess the best (b/c Alaska was just so awesome), I have to admit the Disney trip was amazing. It's just that I'm not that big a beach person and the poverty on some of the Bahaman islands kinda depresses me.

Nice review Richard. Thanks for the information!

I don't think I will do a Disney cruise yet because my kids are still a bit young. I will probably do a Princess because it's a lot cheaper and save Disney for when they are 4 or 5 years.

I just got these prices from orbitz.com, Disney is crazy expensive!!!
Just imagine how much it would be after the check-out bill.

Same dates and 4 of the same ports.

DISNEY (pp) Base price
Interior $1,449
Oceanview $1,599
Balcony $2,099
Suite Sold Out

PRINCESS (pp) Base price
Interior $599
Oceanview $698
Balcony$799
Suite$999

Holy cow Bryan, that is a huge difference. With the money saved you can party like no tomorrow (on the check out bill) and still have enough left over for another cruise (well almost). Man you're making me want to plan a cruise right now...hehe

Richard, I love the Disney themes as well. My little girl is a huge fan of the characters and such.

I did the Inside Passage of Alaska years ago the cheap way, Alaska Marine Highway and slept in my seat! It was not bad and I saved tons for the whale watching/glacier tours, dining and float plane trips. It is a great place to visit.

Dan, I hear that is a cool drive up there however, I hear the road is really bad in a lot of spots. Do you know if they have repaired some of the road to make it more driveable? That would be a great way to see BC and Alaska. It is a lot better for us being we are here in Washington State and the drive isn't as bad. I would love to do that, but probably will never get the chance...
