I hate iMacs as well! But I am a avid Mac user, I guess it comes with being in the grahics industry. Don't get me wrong, I have built a few PCs as well, matter of fact, I just completed building a fairly fast AMD machine, hence the reason I have been preoccupied lately.

I just read an article on the new G5s. This was an interview with a PC reviewer and while some of the comparison numbers Apple reported on the G5 may have been rather inflated, this tech reviewer did state that the G5 should give any desktop PC a run for it's money. I've been trying to locate that article and as soon as I locate it, I will post a link here.

I do think that Macs are WAY over priced considering that you really can't alter their configs as you can when building a PC, but if you match feature for feature, normally the prices level out a little.

There is a strong following for Macs in the audio field, I do remember a very long conversation I had with Trent Reznor after the 1st Lalapalooza in Atlanta. He does all of his work on a Mac.

Finally someone ELSE here who likes AMD! AMD is the leader in design. If it werent for AMD, intel chips would still be 500mhz and costing 1,000 dollars each. If it werent for pentium, AMD wouldnt have a reason to release their 64bit hammer chips which WILL open up the future to new possibilities in the world of computers. [thumb]

Intel's 64bit chips are very limited too...

I picked up an Gigabyte 7VT600-L board that has the 400Mhz frontside bus, a 2600+ AMD processor (until the price of that AMD 3200+ drops a bit I may be crazy but I ain't paying $550 for any processor), Cooler Master Aero V CPU cooler, two Maxtor 120Gb hard drives, a floppy drive, a Lite-On Combo drive, a Lite-On 52x24x52 CD-R, 3 sticks of 512mb Corsair DDR 3200, an Asylum 256mb FX5600 vid card, a FireWire Card, a 4 port SATA RAID card (OK now where are thise kickass SATA drives?), and an Antec Sonata case, all for about $1100 after rebates.

Yeah, too bad the second optical drive bay up and disappeared! [?|]

Found the article!

Microprocessor Watch, perhaps the most respected technical publication for the microprocessor industry, has weighed in with an analysis of Apple's claims. The verdict of senior editor Peter Glaskowsky: Apple's PowerPC G5 processors have transformed the Mac platform into a "viable competitor" to today's fastest PCs.

Just what is the Fastest?

First of all I like both chips. They both are very very good. I use both of them. You can't go wrong either way.

GRRRRRRR HAVE ANY OF YOU USED NEW MAC SOFTWARE IF NOT YOU DONT KNOW HOW MUCH BETTER IT IS
Your right the new Mac OS is nice. The new Mac OS 10 software is a true UNIX based operating system. Many state that the Macintosh GUI is the best UNIX GUI ever made. I myself prefer PC's.

Anyone know of any good Athlon XP motherboards. I currently have the Asus A7S333, but I beleve that it is the root of all the problems I've been having. I cannot even use my PC2700 memory at full speed, WTF is up with that? I do have quite a bit of computing knowledge, but this mobo is a POS!

I have an ECS. Shitty brand but get a gigabit (byte??) or asus with the nforce chipset. The nforce chipset and a geforce 4 are excellent together. Also make sure all your jumpers and bios settings are correct and you might (most likely) have to update the bios for the ram to be running at full speed (if it's supported.)

If you do flash your bios -- dont ask me how to do it, i do not want to be responsible if you f00k something up [:p]
