Guessgirl, 21 male (if you could tell already), Las Vegas. As for the whole mac vs. pc deal. Apple makes some very good pieces of hardware. I would love to have a G4 but they don't run that well with Windows on them. Mac software sucks. All it is good for is digital imaging. They are just toys.
About their hardware... there not as good as you think...

Bill Gates bought DOS for $30K. Then he jacked Apple's code for the OS and made his own. In the end, it doesn't really matter. Every time I work on a Mac, I get so frustrated...I find Mac OS X to be very limiting in what you can do and WinXP is just so natural for me I can do things extremely quick.
Couldn't have said it better myself [thumb]

I have a question for HITMAN or any other mac user- I was useing the thing and just randomly the little Photoshop flower stared jumping up and down from the "toolbar", like some flower on weed or something, it gets very irritaing after a while, how do you stop it? I can't believe I'm asking something like that but I use Windwos, not macs

i dont have a problem with apple's design, just their incompatability.
We NEED Sun, Linus, and Apple to merge!!!!!!! Its a must to kick start the computer world we live in. Technologically, we cant get anywhere because micrsux has a monopoly on everything. and thats why im still buying M$ based products.

My server has been running for a year now (Win 2k server) and never have i had it lock or crash. then again, i am still running a reliable K6-2 233mHz with 196meg ram and 60 gigs scsi in it.
this pc here i use is win 2k as well, with a raid setup. no problems - NEVER. i dont have virus protection (maybe i shouldnt be telling you ppl this, heh) noor pop-up zappers or any of that advertising problems. what is wrong with you people?
Yes i shopvac my reg and ad-ware my image. ive been programming on all platforms for years now and still find M$ based systems capable of supporting everything i need.
I think M$ is doing everything right, its just that they need a competitor to get us moving again technologically.

For work applications, notably graphics & printing...Macs do Rule !!!

For the home user, Windows still is the user friendly choice.

Both can be good

Don't get me wrong here, I have a Mac and an AMD machine sitting right next to each other on my desk. (Actually, the AMD machine is laying on it's side as I attempt to remove a bug that seemed to pop up).

Everything I know about 'puters I learned from working with Macs. I learned enough to be able to build a Windows machine without much help from others. 'puters are 'puters, period.

Now selecting an OS is a different situation! Being a graphic artist by trade, I naturally gravitate to the Mac OS. OS X is a new animal, and takes a lot of getting used to. But I still feel more comfortable with that over Windows 2000 or XP. Every time I install something new on the AMD, I really get worried about an unexpected result from the installation. Rarely do I have that fear installing new software on a Mac. Apple's claim to fame IMHO, is that they're so compatible. Working in a Windows environment at work, I can interact with any Win based machine and my work's NT based servers well as the Outlook mail server. Any file that anyone sends to me, I can open and manipulate. CAD, word processing, photos, spread sheets, and anything else I can think of, (except for one thing, see my last note below). I can also save the manipulated files in a manner that the PC users can still work with them just as if the file had come from another PC.

Apple has always valued innovation over power and speed. Until now. PC Magazine performed their own tests on the new G5, and found the Apple's latest desktop is indeed as fast, if not faster, than a Dell Precision 650 workstation with dual 3.06-GHz Intel Xeon processors. You can see the complete review here;
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1274138,00.asp

Now as I get off of my soap box, I will admit that there is one thing that PC's are better at than Macs, GAMES! Now why do you think I built the AMD machine? [hihi]

At startup, windows explorer opens a folder named "common".

I know I have installed something that is causing this, but I'll be !@#$!ed if I can find what it is to remove it! I have spent several hours searching through the registry to no avail.

Vlad -

Check your Start Menu -> Program -> Startup Folder.

If you put a folder in the Startup folder, it will be automatically opened on login.

If you do find Common there, don't delete it. You probably accidentally dragged it there with an errant mouse click. The Common Folder is usually important and needs to be put back in the right place.

Thanks, I checked that first! Nothing in the startup items folder for myself or all users that seems related to the common folder. And coyote, I scanned those keys in the registry extremely well, still couldn't find anything that would cause this.

I just wiped the drive and will be installing items slower this time to find that pesky gremlin.
