Saddam Hussein captured alive near Tikrit

I don't know why everyone hates him so much... He had an impossible task running Iraq and was doing a pretty good job. Like Stalin he murdered thousands of his own people, yet made the country more secure and made it into an industrialized nation. I think it's going to be very interesting to see how all the different tribes and sects in Iraq will do with american democracy. I think the country is going to be worse off with american rule than it was with saddam. What else are you supposed to do when you have religious fanatics trying to overthrow your government? You kill them. I think it's amazing how americans keep saying, " OMG he gased his own people! What a monster!" It seems that EVERYONE forgot that he used chemical weapons sent to him by american companies with the whitehouse's full knowledge.

Oh yeah, and next time you think of the all the poor Iraquis that saddam killed go ahead and think about the thousands of tons of depleted uraniam that is scattered across Iraq from american tanks and the fact that the cancer rate in Iraq has risen 800% since the end of the gulf war. Killing individuals is one thing. Saturating a land with radioactive material with a half-life of 4.5 BILLION years is another.

But werent those American tanks there in the first place because he invaded Iraq? Like I said before I was there.....to be more exact I sat about ten feet away from the commanding general that was running the whole @$##@! war. If you could see how much of an egoist he was.......JEEZ....! Dont get me wrong I didnt want to be there in the first place but in hind sight I am glad we got rid of him(just that...not the fact that we are still embedded there).
They sent him those chemical weapons as a defensive measure to be used against Iran....purely defensive not to use against his own people. And "religious fanatics" does not translate to 5 and 6year old children. And another thing we are not there to RULE as you say...they WILL have an Iraqi leader...we are hoping for someone like Jordan's ruler. Someone we can influence is true but we will not rule in an Middle Eastern country....that is just asking for trouble. So lets quit with all the pseudo-anti american rhetoric and look at it as X's and O's or black and white for the layman(or woman).

And oh yeah it is very interesting that the cancer rate has risen 800% when at least 75% of the people in Iraq live north of where the American forces stopped back during the first gulf war...so if the cancer rate has increased....WHY????

i think people hate him so much becuase of the terrorist acts that can be tied to him. i agree, he probably was doing a great job.... all those crazy people with their religous plights against americans. didnt you notice we didnt really have too much to do with anything over there until 9/11?

personally, i dont give a rat's ass what goes on over there. let them blow each other up. but when i start having to be searched at every public area and watched 24/7 due to security reasons against terrorists, or lose my friends because we get some dumb ass president thinking a full year over there wont kill them, then yeah, give me the gun, ill put a bullet through sadams head.

When depleted uranium shells hit a tank they are no longer solid. After the explosion the dust is sent into the atmosphere, water and land. It's actually very easy for the radiation to spread.

You said we sent them chemical weapons for defensive measures... Well first off we wanted saddam to win the war that he started with Iran, so I can't see how they would be used to defense. Second, even if they were for defending Iraq from Iran, how is that different then defending Iraq from any other group of people who want to overthrow the governement, no matter where they are from?

Please realise that I am not trying to condone killing kids with nerve gas. I just don't understand why anyone can just write that off as a misjudgement on our part. We gave this nutcase chemical weapons knowing he would kill iranians with it, including iranian women and children.

Also, I am not saying that we shouldn't have fought the first gulf war and drivin him out of Kuwait. Again, I just don't understand why we make such a huge fu**ing deal about chemical weapons that saddam MIGHT have and don't mention the radioactive shells that we used. How can we say other countries can't have weapons of mass destruction when we don't only have huge stock piles, but we use them as well.

Ok, Ok....the chemical weapons argument is bogus and we all know that....but lets not start talking about radioactive shells and the such.....If I recall from my training the depleted Uranium is on radioactively stable in its solid state....but please dont quote me on that.....I am not a chemist by far. I am not upset at ya Pink...everyone has their opinion and I personaly respect that. As long as noone hates on our soldiers you can talk about politicians as much as you want!!!

adrean8j, I'm not by any means upset at you either. I have great respect for our military and that's why I get even more angry when I look and see how our politicians are using them. Yes, depleted uranium is classified as stable in its solid state. The trouble is that there is a huge debate over that - do a search on google for depleted uraniam and read up on it. I think one of the most disgusting aspects of this whole thing is the fact that our soldiers are exposed to this radiation too. Gulf war syndrom, anyone? The government recognises gulf war syndrom, but resuses to look into the fact that many of the cases were caused by exposure to aerosolized depleted uranium rounds.

In regards to what xLibelle said - It is very easy to just say kill 'em all because of what happened on 9/11. However, if you really look into all the details leading up to it you can see that it is clear that we got what was coming to us. Not that I am saying we deserved this, or that those people deserved to die. But that the United States was bound to be attacked because of our military presense in the middle east. And that we would not be able to see the attack coming because we turn a blind eye to the saudis beacuse of the huge oil/banking/political ties we have to them. It is indisputable that the saudis DID fund osama bin laden, and it is also clear that we wouldn't even investigate them because of the business relationship we have. It's all about the money. Just go ahead and read how George W. Bush got started in his oil business and who were responsible for funding his business ventures.

Number one, The amount of DU that is actually put into an inhalational form is tiny. The whole DU arguement is null and void for the fact that I have been through trianing with the AMEDD and the Army NBC crew as to how to react around it. I would highly suggest that unless you have done training with DU, and with the people that developed these rounds, you don't bring it up. I also must point out that there are raising accounts of cancer and Thyroid disease in the southwest not because of DU, but becasue of actual nuclear detonations that took place here. But these acounts are tiny as well, and there are much more severle amounts of radiation out here. People need to get off the whole DU thing unless they actually know all the facts. Knowing that there is actually somebody out there that show sympathy for Saddam and Stalin seriously makes me doubt as to the worth, and my willingness to give my life for this country. These people didn't kill hundreds of thousands (millions in Stalins case) of their own people to protect themselves. They did it out of shear brutallity, and to keep themselves in power. We go in during WW2 to help the millions of people being slaughtered by the Nazi's and we are saviors, but we do it now and we are sticking our nose where it doesn't belong¿ WTF!!! This is a hippocracy that needs to be looked at very hard. As far as the whole Osama Bin Laden deal goes, if you don't think that we are still looking for him, I will give you the APO addresses of some of my best friends that are over in Afghanistan right now. They sure would be interested to find out that they are going days without showers in that freezing barren wasteland for nothing. Furthermore, we all hear that Saddam won't be taken alive. He will fight to the death!!! BULL$HIT! He was just a pansy @ss evill little bug that was dragged out of his hole like a cricket! He wasn't a martyr, or a religious leader. He was nothing more than a murderous dictator. All the people that he killed weren't guerilla's that were trying to take over the country. You seem to be forgetting that he showed no care or sympathy for the children and women that he gassed as well.

The majority of us value the worth and willingness every day from our armed forces for our freedom and our country.

You can't just say that democracy is right and everything else is wrong. You have to look at the condition russia and iraq were in before saddam and stalin took control. The overall quality of life was better after they forced weak unindustrialized countries into the work market and made them into powerful countries. Just wait till the US forces democracy in Iraq. I will bet that for the average citizen life will be worse off under democratic rule than under a dictatorship.

I am not saying that saddam and stalin were moraly just in our own sense of what is right and wrong. I am saying that each country is different and sometimes you need to go to extremes in order to establish security and stability.

As far as DU goes I don't understand how you can just say that it is not harmful because our government says so. Obviously they are going to say there is nothing wrong with it.

And I don't want to hear any sh** about chemical weapons from anyone. We gave them to saddam to kill iranians and he used them on kurdish villages. That was our fault for letting that happen. We were allied with him and did have an influence on his decision making. Had we threatened to not back him if he used chemical weapons I suspect he would have been more than happy to use conventional weapons against the uprisings in his country.

Also, I didn't say anything about the search for Osama, so I don't know why you dragged that into this arguement.

Oh, and lastly. The situation in Nazi germany was completely different than the situations in iraq and even russia. The Germans were killing jewish citizens for no reason other than the fact that they were jewish. The Iraqis were killing kurds and other tribal factions because they sought to overthrow the government. They provoked a fight with saddam thinking they would get US backing. Instead they got a face full of antrax. Is that fair? Maybe not by international standards. But I can tell you that when your entire country is on the verge of collapsing you will do whatever it is you have to do to stop that from happening.

Hey now, i didnt say kill em all, i said let them have at them selves. I agree, the US was asking for it. The muslims rehad (sp! - religious plight to have beef with others) just targeted us because we better fit the description of evil. And in someways, if i were in their shoes, i would agree. this capitalist world we live in isnt for everyone.
Jungle and pink, you both have very good points. I work with radioactive isotopes each week, i had a considerable amount of training on them, and they arent as dangerous as you think (though i might have sperm with two tails by now, super sperm). so i agree with jungle that there is no arguement if you have no data.
But no matter what info about the whole political aspects of the situation you bring to the table, the plain truth is that people with such power and influence as saddam, that flex it in wrong ways, must be taken out. this doesnt even really parallel stories with the Nazis. and i dont think democracy is what they need over there - but how do you make over a dozen different religious groups all happy together?

Don't get me wrong but I feel bad for the guy. Yeah he done a lot of wrong, but imagine what was going through his head all this time when his country was overtaken. He also looks identicle to my grandfather... so I can kinda relate to him on a more personal level.
The guy can eat my sh*t....spent over a year in tents to get this bastitch...glad we got him....feed him to Iraq and let them execute him.[thumb]

If you have any idea on the history of him and what he has done......but than again.....you must have missed that.....like my 8 year old missed me deployed over the years living in god forsaken tents.

Sad that people do not know the US, English, Canada, etc....have been deployed over there for well over a decade....sad to see know one remembers Khobar Towers......getting the bastitch eventually will bring our troops home when the job is done. When you put on a uniform....and go into the AOR....you look at things different than the media. When we caught him...was a great day for me....I still like his line, "I am Sadam Hussain, I am the president of Iraq, I am willing to negotiate." I got something for him to NEGOTIATE.....LOL.[}:)]

Well...the main thing is that we didnt have anything to do with him since 9/11.....we have been at war for a long time. 14 years military here and Deployed to Khobar, Ali Al Salem, Al Udeid...just coming from a enlisted mans mouth.....the day we caught him.....great day. Most of the students I train as a Military Tech school instructor.....they do not know where Khobar towers is. People feeling sorry for SoDamnInsane.......sometimes I wonder.[8]

Not saying that you do at all xLibelle....but than again....some posts get me worked up......being deployed and actually being in the AOR.....I think different than most, just like my brothers and sisters in arms that are living in tents right now, eating a MRE for XMAS sucks....but the day they caught him, well worth me eating a MRE for another month to celebrate, not like MRE's are all that bad.[thumb]
