"The world's oil reserves are up to 80 percent less than predicted, a team from Sweden's University of Uppsala says. Production levels will peak in about 10 years' time, they say. "

This article says that we will max out our oil & gas supplies around 2010, and then things start to get ugly - skyrocketing energy costs become a global crisis.

Remember the big northeast blackout? The Hurricane blackouts? Now imagine that WORLD WIDE.

No Internet..... No cars..... No TV...... No Air Conditioning.....

When millions of people are cold, out of jobs, hungry, dying because life support equipment fails, everyone will forget about Cherynobl and Three Mile Island.

Everyone will be saying "Build Nukes!! Build Nukes!! Why didn't we build more nukes!??!!!"

Than we would just go crazy and kill each other. [hatchet]

So that means that buying a new car now is stupid since it will last no longer than 6 years.... that just sucks! [rolleyes]

No.. it says that "supplies will not start falling until 2050. "

You must have read it wrong... we are safe!!! [:D]

No Push, YOU read it wrong. Read it again... The 5th paragraph clearly says EARLIER STUDIES regarding 2050 as below:

"At that point prices for petrol and other fuels will reach disastrous levels. Earlier studies have predicted oil supplies will not start falling until 2050. "

They have actually developed a way to create a fuel that has many of the same properties as Petroleum. It is made out of cooking oil. They combine it with something else (glycerin I believe), and it can be used as an alternative for fossil fuels. You can make the fuel right in your own backyard. I will see if I can find the article. The government needs to step in and put there foot down on some of the research that is being done. A group out of BYU actually developed an engine that would run efficiently off of water, but Exxon bought out the patent rights.

We went to this guy who did that with our ECO club. This alternative fuel is way INEFFICIENT since it is biological (imagine how many farmers need to be involved). It also stinks like hell and is just unrealistic for mass production use. They have better chance making gas cars that bio-degradible gas cars. In a way its like making a bio bomb.

An engine that runs on water? Not possible. Maybe an engine that runs off the by products of water, Hydrogen & oxygen? I would like to see the article.

Push is right - bio fuel is way inefficient. Just imagine that instead of feeding the world's poor, we make fuel.

Technically, water is the product. The emissions are way lower than diesel though. You don't have to use a hundred percent biodiesel. Just 40% would be economical.
